Learning to Read

4 Year Olds

Room 7 & Room 8

In the 4 year old classrooms, the curriculum includes phonics and literacy, math, fine motor, science, and social studies. They start out every morning with circle time which includes going over the calendar (days of the week, months of the year, weather) and class discussions. It is during this time that the children hear a devotional/bible story that incorporates prayer, worship, giving, and loving others. The children focus on a letter per week, and learn the sound of the letter by using zoo-phonics. They begin to distinguish the difference between capital and lowercase letters and also practice writing them. In math, the children learn to sort by size, shape, and color. They compare and contrast, create patterns and graphs, and practice recognizing, writing, and counting numbers 1-20. In science, the children will have fun, hands on projects. They learn through observation, experimentation, and play. They will use all 5 senses when it comes to their science projects!

The goal of the 4 year old classroom is to get them ready for Kindergarten. Watch your child blossom and grow! We at Sunnyvale Christian school believe in a balance of academic and play based learning. The four year olds will have a morning and afternoon recess on the playground, as well as free play/centers at different times of the day.

But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
